Can I use a My Social Security account to track my disability case?

If you have applied for disability benefits through the Social Security Administration (SSA), you may be wondering how to track the status of your case. One way to do this is by using your My Social Security account.

What is My Social Security?

My Social Security is a secure online portal that allows you to access your personal Social Security information and manage your benefits. With a My Social Security account, you can:

View your earnings and benefits statement

Get an estimate of your retirement, disability, and survivor benefits

Change your address and phone number

Start or change your direct deposit

Request a replacement Social Security card (in most states)

To create a My Social Security account, you will need to provide your name, Social Security number, and some other personal information. You will also need to create a username and password. Once your account is set up, you can log in at any time to check on the status of your benefits or make changes to your account.

Can I use My Social Security to track my disability case?

Yes, you can use your My Social Security account to track the status of your disability case. When you log in to your account, you will see a dashboard that provides an overview of your benefits. This dashboard should include information about your disability case, such as the date your application was received and the current status of your case.

If you have an active disability case, you can also use your My Social Security account to:

Check the status of your disability benefits

View any decisions made about your case

View any upcoming appointments or hearings

View any documents or messages related to your case

It's important to note that the information available in your My Social Security account may not be as up-to-date as the information available to the SSA. If you need the most current information about your case, you may want to contact the SSA directly.

How do I check the status of my disability case?

There are a few different ways to check the status of your disability case:

Use your My Social Security account: As mentioned above, you can use your My Social Security account to check the status of your disability case. Simply log in to your account and look for information about your case on the dashboard.

Contact the SSA: You can also call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to check the status of your case. When you call, be prepared to provide your Social Security number and other identifying information.

Contact your local SSA office: If you prefer to speak with someone in person, you can visit your local SSA office to check on the status of your case. You can find your local SSA office by visiting the SSA's website or by calling the SSA's toll-free number (1-800-772-1213).

Use the SSA's online tools: The SSA's website also provides a number of online tools that can help you track the status of your case. For example, you can use the "Claim Status" tool to check the status of your disability claim. You can also use the "What's Next" tool to find out what you need to do next in the disability process.

How long does it take to get a decision on a disability case?

The length of time it takes to get a decision on a disability case can vary greatly. In general, the process can take anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on the complexity of your case and the workload of the SSA.
